Panasonic P2 and Sony XDCam Poduction Workshop (AM) - 06 Sep 2010
VMI Tapeless Production Workshop is given by VMI's MD Barry Bassett.
VMI are hosting workshops demonstrating tapeless production and post-production workflow using XDCAM-HD, XDCAM-EX, P2 and AVC Intra formats in Soho in small groups.
The reason that I personally feel that this is warranted, is that our clients are increasingly been pressured into shooting on HD but only being offered DVCAM production budgets and I believe that this type of equipment offers this solution.
Also, producers are understandably reticent about shooting on a tapeless format and by demonstrating this workflow close-up, you can build your confidence in the systems by seeing how simple and reliable the workflow is.
We shall be demonstrating the full-size Sony XDCAM HD and Panasonic P2/AVC Intra Camcorders as well as the compact-size P2 and XDCAM EX camcorders.
We shall be demonstrating the following:
• No stock cost – tapeless production does not use once-only use tapes. Also hard drives and solid-state media are re-useable.
• There are several methods available for easy data-transfer from transient media onto hard drives for post-production.
• Off-line post is quicker and easier than using tape, since each shot is automatically recorded with in and out points plus a thumbnail image for reference.
• Off-line post is in native HD quality, so this avoids spotting problem shots during the conform.
• Conform charges are saved, as off-line is now in full HD!
• Sensible strategies for safe data management.
We shall be demonstrating the following equipment:
- Sony PDW-700 XDCAM HD Camcorder
- Sony EX-3 XDCAM-EX Camcorder
- NanoFlash solid state HD Recorder
- Panasonic HVX-201 P2 Camcorder
- Panasonic HPX-500 2/3" P2 Camcorder
- Panasonic HPX-3000/HPX-3700 AVC Intra P2 Camcorder
- Final Cut Pro HD post production with P2 workflow
- AVID Xpress HD post production with P2 workflow
- Portable data transfer tools.
