VMI provide a range of camera training courses covering lighting, cinematography, RED, camera operation and DSLR operation.
We operate a 3 for 2 offer on all courses booked at the same time (excluding RED).
These courses all last one day and unless stated are all held in Soho, W1.
By keeping class sizes small, we hope to give the maximum of hands-on experience of the equipment and at the same time, by keeping couses to just one day, we can also help to keep the course cost affordable.
VMI passionately believes in trainings both its staff and clients. The trainers are chosen from a wide spectrum of Industry and all are experts in their field.
Some courses can be offered without charge if appropriate equipment is hired before the point of booking please see individual course details.

RED DIT Course for Camera Assistants and Camera Operators - 21 Sep 2010
One day course to train Camera Operators/Assistants with no prior RED knowledge to be able to work in a RED DIT (Digital Imaging Technician) capacity in one day.
IT literacy essential but no prior of experience of RED cameras is required.
The course will cover basic camera setup, camera operation, best practice, bug awareness and data management and is essential preparation for anyone planning to shoot with this exciting new format.
This course is limited to 7 places for maximum hands-on operation.

HDSLR Camera Production Course - 28 Sep 2010
HDSLR course
This is a one day course to equip camera operators and stills photographers to migrate to shooting HD video with the new range of DSLR Cameras and achieving the film look.
This course is limited to 8 places split into 2 groups. Two sets of equipment will be provided, working on Canon EOS 7D/5D MkII Cameras with Zeiss ZF Distagon ZF 35mm lenses with Canon mount adapters.
This is a very practical workshop after which, you will be confident to shoot using DSLR cameras and know how to edit the pictures that you shoot.
Course Outline
Acquisition
The implementation and use of SLR
The effect on depth of field and the use of 35mm size stills lenses
Rolling shutter and the gello effect
Shooting @ 25fps and 30fps
Problems with flicker etc.
The limitations on sound recording
The limitations on monitoring and viewing
The operating and solutions on working with a small camera.
The importance of lighting and camera support (gripping) on large chip cameras
Matte box, follow focus and monitoring solutions for camera assistants
Post
Compression and camera frame rates.
30fps to 25fps conversions and plug ins
Importing into FCP and ease of workflow with h264 and avchd
About the Trainer
